One day, while I was looking for new experiences and significant connections, I decided to download the SLOWLY app to my phone. I didn’t know what to expect, I had never written a letter (not to mention the numerous simulations made in the classroom). The idea of having a pen friend has always fascinated me, someone with whom to share thoughts, emotions and stories without haste.
So, by registering on SLOWLY, I created my profile, describing my interests and passions. I later wrote a brief introduction about myself and finally created my avatar.
After completing my profile, I started exploring SLOWLY users. Here I am, leafing through a series of profiles, looking for someone to get my attention. I wanted someone funny and witty, able to make me smile even in the darkest periods.
Then, among all the profiles, I crossed that of Mariane, a very sweet Brazilian girl. He loved listening to music, reading and playing volleyball. When I received his reply I was enthusiastic: I had never received a letter from South America! Our lifestyle was completely different but, despite this, a very strong bond was created between us.
We started writing slowly, starting with presentation messages and sharing details about our daily lives. I also learned a lot of information about her country thanks to her: culture, culinary traditions, music and much more. Over time, our conversations became deeper and deeper. We shared personal stories, dreams and aspirations, laughter and even a few moments of sadness. Every message I received from Mariane touched me deep in my heart. It was amazing how a foreign person could fully understand my thoughts and emotions.
Despite the geographical distance between us, we felt closer and closer. We have chosen to use SLOWLY as a means of venting ourselves, to express our deepest fears and desires. It was a special gift to be able to communicate without haste, letting the words flow calmly.
Today, Mariane and I are still pen friends, and our friendship is as strong as ever before. We still write on SLOWLY, sharing our experiences and supporting each other.
Thanks to SLOWLY, I found a special friend who enriched my life in ways I never imagined. We have overcome cultural and linguistic barriers, opening our mind to the possibilities behind a simple message.
