Since then, the idea of pen pals intrigued me. As a kid who don’t leave her room but wants to have many friends, the thought of sharing my interests, life and culture through handwritten letters fascinates me. Sadly, I didn’t experience it since like all parents who gets overprotected on their child, I should never talk to strangers. But it all changed when one day, I discovered Slowly when I’m finding ways to interact with other people online.

At first, I was disheartened because it took days before I got my 1st letter. However, I realized that the only way for me for meaningful conversations is to speak confidently. From that, I try to be mindful on every letter that I write.

This big step of mine brings me immerse joy as me and my pen pals exchange fun and interesting letters from time to time. As I sit in my room in front of my computer, reading and writing letters, I glimpse into people’s lives and see their perspectives and stories unfold one by one. That’s why, I truly believe that one’s culture and language are not a barrier but a bridge to understand each other’s lives.

I am grateful to the creators of this app for bringing people closer despite the distance. I am also thankful for every pen pal that took their time to reply even though they’re also busy with their own lives. Some of them are not online anymore but I still cherish their letters in my archives to reminisce the time that we once shared. And for my current pen pals, I hope all of you are well and happy. We may not send letters often, but I eagerly anticipate the new stories each one will brings.
