Güira
Sound of the World
The güira is a vibrant percussion instrument hailing from the Dominican Republic, often found at the heart of merengue and bachata music. Resembling a metal cylinder with a rough surface, it produces a distinctive rasping sound when scraped with a stick. Interestingly, it was traditionally manufactured from discarded tin cans, embodying resourcefulness in rhythm.
