Sverd i fjell
Norway
Nestled along the serene shores of Hafrsfjord, this striking monument features three enormous bronze swords embedded in the rock. Commissioned to commemorate the unification of Norway under King Harald Fairhair in the 9th century, these towering swords stand as a testament to peace and unity, their blades firmly anchored in stone to signify an end to conflict. Designed by sculptor Fritz Røed in 1983, the monument’s largest sword symbolises the victorious king, while the smaller ones represent the defeated chieftains. The picturesque setting and historic resonance make it a fascinating glimpse into Norway’s Viking past.
