Growing up, I was that kid who was always obsessed with other countries and cultures. When my grandmother mentioned she had a friend in Spain with 2 grand daughters my age, I was so excited and I asked could I exchange letters with them. We did do for almost a year!

I remember back in September of 2023, I was starting my final year at Highschool, and I always look through the App Store for suggested apps, and that’s when Slowly popped up. After reading the description of the app, I decided to download it and boy, was I glad!

Usually with sending messages, it’s just a quick one that has not much meaning to it, if that makes sense. But on slowly, I could write as much as I wanted, talk about as much experiences, and the other person would do the same. And even if I have to wait 2 days for my favourite pen pal to send me a letter from Australia, I know that wait will always be worth it because of our letters. Or if I only have to wait 2 hours to send a letter to my friend from the UK, I also know it will be worth it.

Hearing about so many peoples different experiences and outlooks on life, where they traveled to, what made them laugh, what made them cry, what their super power would be, it always made me excited.

People on this app have complimented my personality, and at first when someone did I was so shocked, but so grateful. They would comment on how lovely I seemed and how they enjoyed reading my letters, and would sit back laughing at jokes I made.

Since joining the app back in September, I actually have 2 penpals that I still talk to regularly from back then, and I’m always excited to receive new letters and write new letters to people from all different parts of the world, and vice versa.

Slowly isn’t just an app, it’s a family, it’s a community. If you’re thinking about it, go write that letter, you won’t regret it. If anyone here finds me somehow on slowly, don’t hesitate to write, I will only be glad to reply!
