Parliament House, Canberra

Perched atop Capital Hill, the iconic seat of Australia's government is a modern masterpiece of architecture. The design, by New York-based architect Romaldo Giurgola, cleverly integrates the building into the landscape, topped with an impressive 81-metre flagpole – a nod to Australian sovereignty. Opened in 1988, the structure features over 4,700 rooms and covers an astonishing 250,000 square metres. Visitors can explore some of this vast interior, marvelling at the marble-clad Great Hall and the exquisite tapestry based on an Arthur Boyd painting. Its unique design ensures that even when inside, the heart of the Australian political world feels seamlessly connected with the surrounding environment.
