Tikal Temple I

Tikal Temple I

Guatemala

Nestled in the heart of the Guatemalan jungle, the awe-inspiring Tikal Temple I, also known as the Temple of the Great Jaguar, soars 47 metres into the sky. Constructed around 732 AD during the height of Mayan civilisation, it served as the burial site for the revered King Jasaw Chan K'awiil I. Its steep, pyramid-like design and dramatic stone stairway culminate in a towering roof comb adorned with intricate carvings. As the sun sets, the temple casts long shadows over Tikal's ruins, providing a glimpse into the enigmatic world of the ancient Maya.
