The Guitarrón Mexicano is a large, six-string acoustic bass guitar commonly used in Mexican mariachi bands. Its deep, resonant sound provides the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the ensemble. Unlike a regular guitar, the guitarrón has a very convex back and is usually played by plucking and strumming the strings with vigorous hand movements.
