I started using Slowly four years ago, in February 2020. It’s curious, I just wanted to get out of my comfort zone, try new experiences, and talk to new people. This was not easy for me to do, as I have social anxiety and I find it hard to meet new people, even online. I had no idea what was gonna come out of this, but nowadays, I’m so glad I did it because it started a friendship that I value strongly and that has helped me through the roughest patches of my life.
I started talking to this girl from Brazil; we hit it off pretty quickly – the fact that you can add your interests helps you a lot, as this girl and I shared a lot in common, and this added the base for very pleasing chats. We quickly found out we shared a lot of common interests and opinions and kept talking and talking. It was nice to finally meet someone you share a special bond with. It helped me not feel alone in such a lonely and dark period of my life, not to mention during the pandemic era that started only a month later.
We started doing this fun thing where, in each letter, we also share our playlist of the month and rate it – it’s a nice way to make each other find out new music and have fun while doing it. But it’s not just that. The reason why I am so grateful for this relationship is that we are always there for each other. Over the years, we have laughed together, celebrated each other’s victories and birthdays, cried together, supported each other, given each other advice, and hyped each other up to move on during hard times.
It’s incredible how you can create such a strong bond and alliance with someone online. I would have never expected that that simple decision would have started all of this. It took only one letter, one click – and fast forward to 4 years later, still talking to my pen pal, sharing experiences, having fun, and knowing I have someone to lean on to.
I’ll be forever grateful to Slowly and its team, because without this app I would have never met my friend, and I would have felt alone during such a hard and harsh period of my life. So, thank you, thank you so much, for giving me the company I didn’t know I needed, but that now I cherish and value as a precious friendship.
