Fortress of São Miguel
Overlooking Luanda, this Portuguese fortress developed from defences first established in the sixteenth century. Its thick walls and bastions guarded the settlement and harbour. The complex later became a military museum, where historic displays and tiled scenes connect the building with Angola’s colonial history and struggle for independence.
