The Galo de Barcelos, or Rooster of Barcelos, is a colorful symbol of Portugal, representing faith, justice, and good luck. According to legend, a pilgrim wrongly accused of theft proclaimed his innocence by stating that a roasted rooster would crow as proof. Miraculously, the rooster did, leading to the pilgrim’s release. This tale has made the rooster an iconic figure in Portuguese culture.
