Hello from the UK!
When I first joined Slowly, my goal was to make a few friends, but I’ve also managed to improve my German along the way. I’ve been studying the language for a while but found it hard to stay motivated without actually using it. Slowly gave me a reason to put what I’d learned into practice. Writing to real people and trying to express myself, even with mistakes, made the process much more meaningful.
Sending letters in German has been a great way to learn. It’s slower, more thoughtful, and more honest. When I sometimes make mistakes, people are patient and encouraging.
Through these conversations, I’ve learned a lot about people’s experiences, what daily life in Germany is like, and what matters to them.
The more I write, the more I imagine living there one day, somewhere quiet in the countryside, surrounded by trees and open fields. I work in tree conservation and love my job, so the idea of being around them even after work, living a quiet life in the fresh air, sounds perfect.
Slowly has made that dream feel a little closer. Every letter I get from Germany brings a small piece of that world to me.
