I couldn’t be happier with my Slowly experience. I have truly met some of the most interesting, creative, and inspiring people of my life through this app – and I feel privileged to call them my penpals and friends.
However, if I truly want to thank Slowly for something, perhaps it should be for the day a mysterious new penpal replied to my auto-match message.
A penpal who has become my best friend and closest companion.
Speaking to Dheeksha, in letters passing between the UK and India, I began to notice there was something different about the way she spoke that I hadn’t experienced before.
Dheeksha didn’t write letters with formality, nor to impress.
Dheeksha wrote openly and honestly from the heart. She trusted me to respect her every word, and I did.
As time went on I learned about her passions, her hobbies, and her beliefs. I learned she is a capable doctor, an astonishing yoga practitioner, and a serine singer. I couldn’t believe my eyes, she kept talking to little old me! We have shared so much together, not just memories, but letters and phone calls too. I feel seen and appreciated in her presence – in a way only a best friend can offer, and I am so happy to know I can be there to offer her support in her life too.
Well, now we have been talking non-stop every day for months. She is a part of my life that I wouldn’t want to live without, and I simply can’t picture how the world used to look without her with me every single day.
Thank you Slowly, I would never have met my best friend if it wasn’t for this app.
Thousands of miles away is the best person I could ask for as a friend, and it has taught me that distance is nothing but a number – and it should never stop us from finding the best people, no matter where they are.
What greater gift could I ever ask for?
