My daily routine was becoming monotonous. Despite having a great family, supportive friends, and comfortable life, I want to experience something different even for a day. That’s when I accidentally stumbled on SLOWLY, and I thought that talking to some stranger from other culture would be fun and exciting; something I haven’t tried yet. Without giving much thought, I made my account and sent my first letter to random users where I was able to make few friends from my home country, and exchanged short one’s with people from other Asian countries. But it was starting to get boring again without new letters arriving to an extent of thinking if whether I should uninstall the app or not.

It was a fine evening in October, and I decided to check my letters one last time before quitting before someone caught my attention. A new user wants to be friends! I immediately composed my reply to him, waited for a day to be exact and to my surprise, this friend quickly responded. I’m honestly thankful that he can speak & write in English fluently so I didn’t have a hard time expressing my thoughts as well. We talked about a little bit about ourselves, our hobbies, and our culture. That’s basically how we ended up exchanging replies almost everyday.

As weeks pass by, I learned many things from this friend. He was a really great person! He’s very kind and respectful in responding to my questions. Now that I think about it, I didn’t send other letters for the whole month aside from him. I started to enjoyed his company, especially when he starts to talk about his undying love for space 🚀. He is currently studying aerospace engineering and I couldn’t be more honored to have listened to all his rants in our exchange. He was smart, hardworking, and resilient. For days, I am looking forward to hear his thoughts and how his day went by.

But you know, things like this are not meant to last for a long time. We lost contact with each other due to our busy schedules and personal lives. I was able to talk to him for a while in Instagram before he deactivated his account. Yet I understood very well his reasons for departing, and I will extend my support to whatever means I can as his friend.

Nevertheless, if fate allows, I’d like to find this friend sometime in the future and meet him personally. He inspires me in many ways and I hope he feels the same during the time we talked.

𝙏𝙤 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙅𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙣, 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧𝙪-𝙨𝙖𝙣! I hope you’re doing well and healthy today. Thank you for reaching out to me first and giving me the best experience in this app. By that time, I will be able to communicate with you 𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙡𝙮 in Japanese. I’m looking forward to meet you soon!

Signed,
Pol
